Layer up, Beast fans!

While cold temperatures are usually welcome at The Beast, the forecasted weather for this Saturday is colder than we’d like. Our management team has been checking the forecast all week, making and re-making plans throughout, and we now have some operational updates to share. Keeping the safety of our guests and staff in mind, we will be delaying our lift openings until 9:00 a.m., with our first priorities being the K-1 Gondola and Snowdon Six. To ensure adequate breaks for any staff working outdoors, we will maintain our usual weekend staffing levels in Lift Operations despite running a reduced number of lifts. Guests should plan to start their day in our K-1 and Snowshed areas, with Ramshead following and hopefully Bear and Skyeship by day’s end. For full details and potential updates on everything else, including lessons, food & beverage, and tubing, make sure to stay tuned to our Conditions Report.

For those looking to brave the elements this weekend or just learn more about staying warm on the slopes, check out one of our past Insider Blogs for tips on the best gear, layering methods, and more. We also endorse skiing & riding with a buddy, taking frequent breaks to warm up and fuel up with calories, and sticking to marked trails—we have plenty to choose from, and a cold day is not an ideal day to get lost. Regarding outerwear, we tend to recommend the high-quality gear from our friends at Mammut, who are now accepting entries for their 2026 sweepstakes. Prizes this year include a Nirvana 18 Backpack, a Sender IN Hooded Jacket, and the grand prize: a dream trip to Switzerland, including covered airfare, lodging, and a full Mammut kit.

One group of people who are well used to some cold is our snowmaking team, who were recently profiled as part of Ski Area Magazine’s I AM a Snowmaker contest. Our marketing team put together a video chronicling the driving forces behind our snowmakers: legacy, grit, and passion. You can now view our submission and vote for our crew up to once per day through February 2nd!

Due to the consistent snowmaking temps we’ve had this winter and our investment in low-energy snowguns, we’ve already made snow on nearly every one of our trails with snowmaking capabilities. After snowmaking in Dream Maker and The Stash finishes up, the last trails on our list to cover will be Double Dipper, Vertigo, and of course, Devil’s Fiddle. And don’t worry, we’ll be circling back to making snow on Superstar soon enough as well.

This Sunday, January 21st, we’re happy to host the first of two USASA events taking place in our kparks this winter. The USASA Northern Vermont Series is bringing slopestyle action for all ages to the lower section of our Timberline Park. The upper section of the park will remain open to the public during the day, but all those who aren’t spectating or participating will need to exit the park onto Header before reaching the event venue. Speaking of this Sunday, we’re also monitoring a potential snowstorm that’s looking more and more likely to land on the tail end of these upcoming cold temps, which may be the last push we need to get to 100% open.

Looking ahead to next weekend, Subaru WinterFest is almost upon us! Check out everything we have going on during the weekend, including free live music performances by Horseshoes and Hand Grenades, The Last Revel, Ponyhustle, and Jatoba, all presented by Harman Kardon. We’ll also have DJ sets at our Jerk Jamaican Mountain Grill, free coffee & snacks at the event venue next to our K-1 Lodge (while supplies last!), and $4,500 worth of free giveaways each afternoon. View the full schedule and make sure to bring your friends, your family, and your dog to this fantastic wintertime experience.

See you on the slopes!
